Flushing the DNS Cache

This article reviews how to clear the DNS cache in a Secure Edge client device. Administrator permission on the device is required in order to flush the DNS cache.

Description
When troubleshooting issues relating to DNS name resolution, you may need to flush the local DNS cache. This action may also speed up the application of changes such as unblocking a page via the DNS filter. Follow the steps below based on the type of device:

Open an administrator command prompt or PowerShell window.

Enter the following command:
ipconfig /flushdns
-
Close the command prompt.

Open a Terminal window.

Enter the following commands:
sudo dscacheutil -flushcache
sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder -
Close the terminal.

Method 1: Toggle Airplane Mode

Open the Settings app.

Scroll down and tap Airplane Mode.

After enabling Airplane Mode, then tap the icon again to disable it.
Method 2: Reboot Your Device

Press and hold the side button (or the top button on older models) and either volume button until the power off slider appears.

Drag the slider to power off your device.

Power On: After a few seconds, press and hold the side button (or the top button) again until the Apple logo appears.

Android does not offer a way to clear the system's DNS cache within the device. However, you are able to flush the DNS cache using a browser such as Chrome:

Open the Chrome app.

In the URL bar, type in chrome://net-internals/#dns

In the right pane, tap the Clear host cache button.
